FINAL VOICE ACTING COMPETITION -5- RESULTS!

FINAL AVERAGED SCORE FROM ALL JUDGES: 65

(((Not disqualified because this was submitted on time, but not approved on time which is against the authors ability. However, to be fair, the score will have a -3 put on it 68 - 3 = 65 in order of Dylawrences normal scoring rate. We think his score would have been a bit more harsher than ours, subtracting the score by abit so -3 is being generous))))

I was listening to this earlier and I couldnt stop laughing. The acting is pretty awful, im not going to lie, but GOD that poor acting made this skit just hilarious. What was up with that main characters voice? What the hell was up with the kids voice? WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH THIS SKIT? I couldnt stop laughing at that "rooaaarrr" thats the best roar I have ever heard... maybe you should have voiced for Robot Dinosours instead of me. I enjoyed the originality in this, you really have the mind of a comedian. You simply need to work on your acting. You have the mic, now practice some skills. Instead of randomly voicing a character on the top of your head, spend time developing the character and ACT HIM/HER OUT. BE THE CHARACTER. Dont imagine your a kid at a mic, imagine your the character. Its really that simple... form there you can develop your own acting techniques. PHIL YOUR BACK! Puberty... best line ever. Hilarious, but poor on acting man. You have a nice range though! Try adding music to the background to spicen up things a bit.

The voices do sound different, providing a wide range of "professionally: sounding voices. All of them sounded like doctors / businessmen. I was very impressed by your acting! Its arare seeing a serious skit here in the contest, so props for that. I personally find it much harder to voice act in a drama than it is to voice act in a comedy. I also found it cool that you provided a wide range of emotions. Each character thought differently of the project. I think you needed ambiance music in the background though. You also paused at the wrong times. Instead of pausing at the end of your sentences, let the recorder go on for at least 2 seconds, then stop it. This way a nice extended silence is added to each line, making it a bit more in depth and suspenseful. I liked the third person and first person narratives from each character, but you should have not introduced each character all at once. Perhaps have a reporter voice saying "Hi, I am here with one of the brothers of the blab la bla company. Tell us your name" and then ave him speak about the company in his perspective, go onto the next character and introduce him with that character speaking as to not REPEAT the "hi im speaking with..." line. There are multiple ways of using this reporter technique, and im sure you can come across them! Great acting, a little poor on mixing, nice originality, and a good range. Good job!

Damn... that's refreshing. I cant help but think it's been done before but since I can't recall where, it's getting big originality points. I enjoyed the whole "everyone's a narrator" approach to storytelling.
Now the mixing was kinda lacking... there were hard pops and hisses that were too frequent to slip by, some music would've been a really nice touch too.
Water of Youth is awaiting moderator approval-let me know when it's posted and I'll review.

ArtellTheWanderer responds:

Thanks for the reviews! I'm a newborn baby when it comes to using a mic and recording professionally, so I didn't really know how to cancel the pops and clicks, or know how to properly space my lines. I would've liked to have put in music as well, but I only heard about the contest about a week and a half before the deadline, so I was rushed on this particular project.
I like the suggestions you've made, and I'll keep them in mind for the next one. I'm hoping that next time--school assignments and surprises permitting--I will have a much more professional submission with music and maybe even sound effects. I'm grateful for this opportunity to put myself out there and try to show my talents! Looking forward to the next big thang.

***At the end of the contest, this entry was not submitted to Newgrounds on time. Therefore, it is disqualified from the contest since not all judges were able to judge. Here are my scores, however, for the authors personal benefits.***

FINAL SCORE FROM ME: 75

Your microphone seems to be very clear. Your acting is to monotone, however, but with improvement you could make some great recordings with quality like that. You should have included some music in the background to spicen up some things. These voices did seem different from eachother, so you seem to have a nice range. You even had some mixing in there where the woman talked in the background. The woman actually seemed to have some nice acting. The monotone voice of the dark guy seemed to well... fit his character. He laughed a bit, seemed serious, wasn't that bad really. Especially since this is your first voice acting skit, I must say you have some great capabilities. You should work on making your acting a bit more EXCITING. Get really into the characters and try and make your voice a bit louder and more in depth. Good luck man.

Ha but I am grateful you took the time to judge it even if it was (or wasn't) late.

Lmao. Count ORBULUS... ORBELIUS. ORBFUCK however you spell it. The beginning to this skit sounded really professional, but then you seemed to get very tired and your voice grew raspy because half of the time you had to gargle some strong dark voice into your microphone trying to represent some villain who is addicted to killing. I think it was alright at first but slowllyyy degraded in quality. The raccoon was hilarious. But sounded a bit to much like the announcer. It was easily noticeable that it was a simple alternation from the normal guy. MOONPIES? God this skit is awesome. You could improve on your acting and really make some funny stuff. When playing your raccoon character, REALLY THINK that you LOVEEEEEEEEE MOOOONNNNPIEEEEESSSSS aaaaawwwwhhh hhoo yeahhh. THINK IT. And then play the character with that thought. Every other character after that also sounded similar to your normal voice. It sounded a lot like you were talking to yourself. I did enjoy the skit and the thought of the characters, but I wish you could have played them a bit better. Pets pets revolution... ROW... haha great stuff. 10 for originality, but 7 for acting. Im listening to the crumcake part again now. God, now that's comedy.

Serioulsy, I cant stop laughing at this. DID YOU SAY CRUMCAKE? Faved.

the large number of characters keeps the pace going nicely... I would say bump up their exaggeration... most seemed to be in monotone, the only character I felt had some passion in his words was Clarence... he sounded hurt when called by his real name XD

And a little side note, if you bring in "celebrity" or well known characters, it may hinder your originality factor a wee bit... especially if they appear for no reason... just a warning.

Thanks for entering the 5th voice acting contest!

Crazy cows tasty moonpies. Are you trying to tell me youve never tasted the pure joy of the moonpie? Theyre a delecious morsel of various meats in a wonderful pocket of breaded delight. STUART GET OUT OF HERE. Noooo

I could name quotes forever from this skit. Cause all of them are great.

InDangerD responds:

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad you guys liked the script. As this was my first shot at this kind of thing and I did it in three hours the weakness shows. Ima put a little more work into the next one.

This is cool!

I like this, the build up is nice, the synths are nice, and the filters are nice as well. Grand job at a song made with the demo. Keep it up! It just needs to be a bit more in depth with more instruments and more beats. Change it up a bit more. Add onto it.

Djevel responds:

Thank you! ^^ Yeah, i know. Will work on that later ^^

Tone Down On That Bass!

It might be because im wearing headphones that makes this song monotanous for me, im not really sure. The only thing that is bad is the huge BOOM bass. It is really different from your normal style of trance. It distracts me from nearly everything in the song and it is hard to follow the actual beat with all the pauses going on.

Its probably just me, but im simply not digging this remix. Possibly try and turn down the bass. Everything after 2 minutes in is really nice. :)

Kazmo responds:

I'd have to go against you here and say that the bass is strong and has good presence. I don't find it overpowering at all, nor do I find it difficult to follow the beat.

It may be your headphones. :P

I Love Your Remixes

Your remixes are better than most I hear now a days. You stay to the simple but beautiful lyrics, yet add a completley new tone to it. Its almost as if you listen to the song, pay attention to the lyrics, and develop an enitrley new one loosely based on the main synth and largely around the lyrics. You remix them of course which even adds more glory to the song.

That bass is ORRGGAASSSMIICCC. I need a sugar rush, haha. Oh god this is great. Keep going, finish this.

Kazmo responds:

You read my mind process lol :3

Thanks!!!

Ok wow, you had a lot of variety here. There is ONE THING YOU NEED. Please, get yourself an AT2020 MICROPHONE! You could REALLY do well in voice acting. These characters were all very great. LOL, the gay guy is addicted to tits? Doesn't that mean he isn't gay-ahh nevermind that's the joke I gettt itt muwahahaha oh that's good. I had a similar skit like this done a while ago where a group of people were at an AA meeting. WTF, the black guy is addicted to sterotypes? This is really original lol. LOL HIS WHITE. Ahahahhaahahaaaaaa. Im addicted to addicts. I like pinis im cured.

Great job overall, please get yourself a nice mic so you can voice act! AT2020 is what I seriously recommend. I have recommended it to others and it has worked great for them. Its what I use! The only thing I have to say is that the ending wasn't very original, so minu 5 on originality but everything else was really great. Good job!

Addicts Anonymous-If this guy improved his audio quality, I'd probably hire him for African American roles on projects I'm responsible for casting in addition to my voice performances. He's got a great array of them and that's unique to the industry right now.

Wow

What program do you use? This is a fully pad enduced track, which I have got to give full respect to since I love making pad and beat tracks my self. You and i should try on a collab together, it would be pretty awesome. Ive got a couple of songs Ive written if you want to check them out in case you want to collab with me. Excellent notes in the background going on in this song, i can really relax to this. Very nice man.

R.I.P. Cat. I hope he/she hears this. ;)

landscapers1 responds:

I used FL Studio for this.

Oh and, I hope she hears this. ;)

It loops perfectley

Dont worry, I made it loop perfectley and everything. It just doesnt loop perfectley on the NG audio portal. I am mixing other songs that you make as well! :D

YouriX responds:

Okay cools lol you helping with the audio can really speed this up :)
Anyways how is it going with the projects any progress?

Oh, hello there. I guess you want to know who I am. I mainly create ambient music and voice act here on NG. Occasionally youll see me produce some silly animation or game. If you want to chat or something, send me a spanky danky PM. *Sig by Magical-Zorse*
