Uhuh.

I am repeating my self way to many times in all these Mac- 08 July contest reviews.. The songs sound all the same with harps, pianos, and the rest of the instruments in them. It just wasnt very original. I liked the beginning tune and the masin song itself.. but didnt like it for the Mac o8 July contest. Sorry. Great song though, and keep it up because you will get tons of fans.

Fuoco responds:

I started composing the song when they announced the contest, but then I ended up composing it for somebody else. I miss her and I did printed that feeling into this song. Did you even listened to the music as a whole? Melody? Harmony?... anything besides what instruments I'm using?

On the other hand, what exactly is original for you?
Do you know what happened back at the children lullaby contest? There were some people claiming their songs were real original and actually standing a chance of winning, but the truth was that none of these songs would fit as a lullaby song, not for anybody's children.

Guess what happened? The songs that weren't "original" at all actually spotted top places (Me in third :D).

What I mean is, this isn't a -let's throw something "original" in there but not totally fitting or barely fitting at all- contest. This is a sad -sorrow contest. Songs are supossed to sound sorrowful and you cannot bash every classical song out there for the mere reason it already is "unoriginal".
In the end, SAD and well written music is the one spotting top places.

Glad you liked it though

-for the love of..

ARGH!! I can't take it anymore!! al these songs sound the exact same god dammit!! It wasnt very sad anyway.. Ok thats my review for the Mac o8 contest.. Here is the review for the song:

The sounds got way to overpowering there for a while, but the beginning was terrific. I liked the way you composed it and the good violins and percussion noises. Sometimes, however, the song kind of hurt my ears.

SolusLunes responds:

I doubt they all sound the same, but what the hell.

Anyways, glad you liked the beginning, oboe ftw. :D

HMM...

The music box was far too loud, make the master volume for that instrument just a little softer. I liked the way you told a story with the song, maybe you should have some vocals in there.

It was a lot more original than the other songs in the MAC 08 contest. But, it didnt sound that great. >:U

The reason why, is because everything was way over the top! You need to tone it down a bit.

nal1200 responds:

I appreciate your constructive feedback, I hope you will reply to this response as well.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'music box.' The instruments used were (in chrono order:) Glockenspiel, Bass Marimba, Cello, Full strings, Viola, Horns, Trombone, and then timpani.

I do agree it is a step aside from the piano ballads that are consuming the MAC, but i'm not sure what you mean when it 'doesn't sound that great.' The quality or subject material? It is, infact, a minimalist piece, just basically the melody repeated with different voices. Maybe that's what you were saying.

Also, and perhaps this is my own fault, it's not supposed to be "cry in a corner" sad, but rather "holy hell i'm about to die TRAGEDY" sad.

Again, thankyou for your honest review!

WELL, for like the 500th time, it sounds just like the other MAc 08 July contest submissions. Piano here, violin there, you know the drill. Still, I know how hard it is to compose such a great piano song. Keep it up and good luck with your future composing. I give you a ten for the great sounding piano piece. But not a ten in the MAC 08 July contest since it goes into the no variation category. :| Listen to the other songs, you will see what I mean.

Reasoner responds:

I actually think that a single instrument like a piano is able to convey more sadness then any grand stringed arrangement could ever achieve. Part of sadness is the feeling of being alone, and a single instrument playing a somber, minor progression can accomplish this with much greater accuracy then an epic, multi-instrumental arrangement,,,in my opinion. Thanks for the props though.

ugh,

All of the songs with the pianos and harps and violins and BLAH sound all the same. I am sure they are hard to make.. but the judges are probably going to look for variation in this MAc 08 July contest. I am giving you a ten because it sounds like a fantastic song, but not as a very original song. It sounded more mediveal than sad by the way.

DylanGlow responds:

Why thank you FatKid! I didn't really write the song for the MAC 08 contest, I just wrote it and someone suggested I try for it, so I did. I can't agree that all songs sound the same with "pianos and harps and violins and BLAH". I could say the same for techno, dance, house, jazz. That's what is called a genre my friend. ^_^ If you don't care for the genre, that's fine. I'm sorry to say, that's what they are though. Thank you for the ten and constructive criticism, it's always appreciated!!!

~Dylan ^_^

... it's "medieval" by the way.

niiceee.

I am pretty much going to have to say the same thing as I did for a lot of the other piano songs in the MAc 08 contest.. It is just a piano.

BUT, this was extremly soothing and the sound quality was amaziing! If it were a piano contest, this would win it. Nice job!

MJTTOMB responds:

Just a piano?

Dude, in case you aren't aware, the piano is the second best instrument, dwarfing only in comparison to the orchestra. The piano is like an orchestra in a box, and if you use it well, a piano can communicate emotions just as strong as anything else. I didn't submit this to the competition because I thought a piano was the best choice, I only submitted it because I love the piano very deeply and it is one of the most beautiful and emotional sounds I know. To be honest, I see no reason "just a piano" is any worse than "just a bunch of synth pads".

Nice REMIX.

Becauase it is a remix of another song, I can't really give a decent review. But I didnt like all the combination of noises in there... It kind of hurt my ears. X_X

OH well, you have a nice talent, keep it up.

Devastus responds:

Remix? Calling it a tribute doesn't mean it's a remix, nor stolen, nor... whatever negative you may have or haven't tried to imply with that :P

Thanks for your review.

OOhh...

It sounded like a luluby or something! Really cool. I think it was a little bit to simple, since it was just a music box. I thnk your other submission into the Mac 08 july contest has a better chance than this one, just to say.

SuperTonic64 responds:

Yes, it is just a music box...but I entered this piece for a reason. I wrote this song while I was crying, while my heart had been splintered into pieces.

Though sweetly disguised by its calm nature, this simplicity was just a mask for the sorrow I had felt. The ringing echoes you hear deeply in the background, that is my past and my pain lingering beneath the surface.

Simple? Maybe. But let me ask you something, must music be so complex to express one's emotions? This song represents much more than a simple music box, my friend. ;)

Thanks for your review! I really appreciate your feedback! ^_^

SWEET.

I liked this! A LOT! The awing mad it a very nice song, along with the mastered harp noises and very professional echoes. A great song for the MAC 08 contest. Good luck. :)

SuperTonic64 responds:

Thanks for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed it! ^_^

~Smart :)

It was alright.

The sound needed to be turned up. I liked it when the other sounds came in. Sounded kind of epic like for a RPG or soemething. I didnt feel any emotions from it though! I am judging all the Mac 08 songs by if they sound sad or not. This one sounded a little sad, but more epic than anything.

RyeGuyHead responds:

epic is always good
